ESD Rubber Tile: Installation

(continued from prior page)

Moisture Barrier Information Warning about moisture barriers

Staticworx® is not responsible for any floor installation failures associated with unaddressed pre-existing site conditions like vapor transmission, moisture permeation, contaminated concrete and damaged subfloors. Always determine if there is a vapor barrier below concrete subfloors before beginning any flooring installation.

All subfloors should be tested for moisture using ASTM test methods. For information about moisture and a complete list of ASTM test methods for determining potential moisture problems visit http://Staticworx® .com/articles/articles-moisture-barrier.htm.

Installing Architectural ESD Rubber Tiles:
1. Measure the area to find the best starting point for a maximum size perimeter tile. Proper planning should avoid trimming perimeter tiles more than half their width.

2. Next, divide the room into 4 quadrants by snapping chalk lines on the floor from the center of each opposing wall. The two center lines must bisect at right angles in the center of the room. To achieve a perfect right angle, which is essential for a proper install, form a triangle by measuring 6’ x 8’ x 10’

3. Tiles can be installed using either a staggered joint method or corner to corner (point to point.)

3a. For staggered joints, second row seams should be offset by one-half tile.

4. Using the chalk lines as your guide, begin laying the rubber tiles using the pyramid technique (figure B).

5. Install one quadrant at a time following the numerical sequence. The corners of the tiles should lie flat with seams lightly touching.

CAUTION: Pressure fitting of rubber tiles can cause peaking seams.

7. Roll tiles slowly with a 100 lb. roller. Roll in both directions, but always diagonally across tiles.

8. Hand roll seam over gently with hand roller to smooth seam.

9. Connect Grounding: The foil or wire should be connected to a predetermined grounding point which can be tapped into an exposed steel column or applicable building ground and secured using a screw and washer.
